Verizon Dominicana Selects Techquest International for Infrastructure Asset Management
Verizon Subsidiary Optimizes Telecom Infrastructure Utilization
and Achieves Significant Operational Efficiencies
July 20, 2005, Cupertino, CA. - (BUSINESS WIRE) - Techquest
International, a leading provider of global infrastructure management
solutions that help companies locate, track, manage and optimize
the use of assets, resources and processes, today announced that
Verizon Dominicana, a subsidiary of Verizon Corporation and the
leading local, long-distance and wireless telephone services provider
in the Dominican Republic, has successfully deployed Techquest's
Telecom Infrastructure Management System (TIMS). The TIMS solution
serves as Verizon Dominicana's system of record for locating,
tracking, and maintaining all of its telecom infrastructure assets,
providing detailed visibility into asset location, system interdependencies,
and supporting elements and components.
In production since August 2004, TIMS provides Verizon Dominicana with a unified view into a wide array of assets, ranging from towers, switches, fiber, data centers, IT assets, power and energy equipment, as well as location-based intelligence for real estate. With TIMS, users can leverage visual, drill-down capabilities to quickly receive a 360-degree view of an asset and all of its related information from a single view. "Verizon Dominicana has achieved a single, complete view into all of its infrastructure assets - fixed and digitized. Implementing TIMS has been a significant accomplishment, and it is really helping us operate more efficiently," said Benhail Acosta, Manager of Facilities Administration, Transport and Infrastructure at Verizon Dominicana.
"Techquest's TIMS solution gives us unprecedented visibility into our capital equipment assets, including utilization rates and capacity levels. This enables us to optimize what we already have - and update or replace equipment only when it is necessary," said Nick Di Sibio, Director of Technical Support at Verizon International. "Because we have confidence that the asset data is accurate and current, we are able to uncover the true costs of capital and operating expenses, helping us to increase the accuracy of our long-term planning and forecasting."
Employee productivity gains have already led to significant hard-dollar savings. In the fall of 2004, Verizon Dominicana faced an aggressive corporate relocation deadline. Using the new TIMS system, Real Estate, Facilities and the Network Operations departments were able to coordinate the move smoothly and efficiently, ensuring the teams met the relocation deadline - and also minimized employee downtime.
"We are fortunate that TIMS is so easy to use," said Damian Baez, Director of Transport and Infrastructure, Network Operations at Verizon Dominicana. "Our employees have quickly adopted the new system, and that really helped us meet our relocation deadline. TIMS is also playing a crucial role in helping us respond more quickly to external market conditions, such as building new towers to expand our presence, or replacing equipment. With TIMS, we are able to plan and execute with greater speed and precision to meet both internal and external customer demands."
Verizon Dominicana selected Techquest because of its ability to provide a visual, end-to-end asset and inventory management solution that leveraged current IT investments, and was accessible to all employees regardless of their physical location or departmental function.
"We are very pleased to have provided Verizon Dominicana with an asset management system that is giving them the visibility and the metrics they need to optimize capital equipment investments and achieve significant employee productivity improvements," said Kamal Gogineni, CEO of Techquest International. "We look forward to working with Verizon to extend the system to their other locations."
Based on the success of TIMS at Verizon Dominicana, the company is looking to implement TIMS at other Verizon affiliates. "Techquest has really surpassed our expectations. We now have a foundation for best practice asset management, and we look forward to replicating this success at other Verizon locations," added Nick Di Sibio.
